Monitoring European Trends in Social Sciences and Humanities (METRIS) is a service project launched by the European Commission, DG Research, to provide an overview of the Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH) fields in Europe. The aim of the project is to monitor European trends in SSH and provide relevant information on the 'state of the art' of these fields for all EU-27 member states, as well as another 15 European and non-European countries, most of them Associated countries to the European Union’s Research Framework Programme. All project deliverables were brought together under the website for the lifetime of the project. It provided METRIS country profiles, annual country reports and additional services. The METRIS project was implemented by the ERAWATCH Network asbl. and managed by Technopolis Consulting Group. In 2013 the METRIS website was discontinued and now separate country reports are available only through the partners’ websites.

Bulgaria joined the METRIS project in 2011, when the first country report was published. The following year a more comprehensive analysis on SSH development in the country was conducted for the 2012 edition.
