ARC Fund at the eEurope+ 2003 International Workshop in Prague

The eEurope+ 2003 international workshop on “Monitoring, Benchmarking and Best Practices” took place in Prague (Czech Republic) on December 2-3, 2003.

The workshop was an important milestone in the eEurope+ 2003 Data Collection Project initiated by the PHARE Candidate Countries and the European Commission (DG Enlargement and DG Information Society) in connection with the completion of the eEurope+ Action Plan.

ARC Fund’s program director, Ms. Dinka Dinkova, presented the “Current State and Prospects for Information Society Development in Bulgaria”. The presentation highlighted major findings of the e-readiness assessment exercise conducted by ARC Fund since 2001. Also present at the workshop were Mr. Todor Yalamov, coordinator of ARC Fund’s IT Group, and Mr. Martin Dimov of Vitosha Research and IT Group member.

The main objective of the Prague workshop was to identify and exchange information on the most suitable indicators for measuring information society and identify best practices in the EU Accession and Candidate Countries. Participants included experts on information society issues from those countries and stakeholders in the eEurope+ 2003 Action Plan. International institutions such as the World Bank, UNCTAD and the Joint Research Center were also present.

The Bulgarian delegation included representatives of key government agencies, such as the Ministry of Transport and Communications, Coordination Center on ICT, Ministry of Regional Development, National Statistical Institute.
