Companies from the agro-food sector of Bulgaria were made aware of a toolkit of modern management techniques

On 31th January 2006 GTZ organized a working meeting under the PSU Wholesale Markets Project with the aim to meet companies producing fresh fruits and vegetables with wholesalers, retailers, processing companies and hypermarkets thus supporting them in planning their activities and production for 2006. The broader objective of the meeting was to make an overview of the current situation of the trade with fresh fruits and vegetables in Bulgaria and provoke discussion among the parties presented (including hypermarket chains on the territory of Bulgaria such as Billa Bulgaria, Metro Bulgaria, and Hit Hypermarket) on issues like terms of delivery, requirements about the quality of the fresh products and packaging.

Within the framework of that event ARC Fund delivered a dissemination session of the SARA project with its activities and results. SARA is an EU co-funded project with the purpose to help European companies from the agro-food sector to increase their competitiveness and become more profitable. The main output of the project is the integration of a series of advanced management techniques & tools into the SARA toolkit designed to facilitate companies in the process of taking strategic decisions and in knowledge management. The SARA toolkit is intended to enhance the companies’ competitiveness by introducing and deploying modern management techniques. At the dissemination event participant companies were delivered a concise training session on the 4 instruments integrated into the SARA toolkit – Knowledge management, Supply Chain Management, Value analysis and the Networking tool (SARA Network).

The companies were also invited to join the SARA network where they are offered the chance to present free of charge their products/services. Through the SARA Innovative Networking tool the agro-food companies will be able to establish new partnerships with other companies in Europe and worldwide in issues related to Exports or Imports, Marketing and distribution of products, Packaging, Raw materials, RTD Activities, Commercial Representation, Technology, Know-how, and Innovation.
