Two resources, developed recently by the Bulgarian Safer Internet Centre, won first and third award in the Insafe resource marketplace, which took place in Budapest between 26 and 28 September.
The marketplace is now a traditional part of the training meetings of the network of European Safer Internet Centres. The audience voted for winners in three categories: Games and video clips, Websites and tools and Offline resources (brochures, leaflets and publications). The Bulgarian SIC was awarded first place in the section Offline resources for the interactive game “Flashboy trainer” and third place for the booklet for first-graders “My First Memo Book”.
“Flashboy trainer” is a game printed on vinyl aimed for children in the kindergarten (3-6 years old). It consists of six possible actions corresponding to a safety internet rule and a physical exercise. The game is at the same time energizing and educative for the kids as after each exercise a short safer internet rule has to be read by the player or by an adult.
“My first Memo Book” is a booklet for first graders to bring it every day with them in school. It is intended to be used by teachers to write notes and reminders inside, so that the parent is aware of the schoolwork and the performance of the child. It also contains Parent’s pages for a parent to write a note or a question to the teacher. The booklet is branded with the SIC services and introduces basic online safety rules as short, rhymed messages. My First Memo book has already been disseminated with the co-operation of the Ministry of Education to all 62,000 first graders in the country together with the Handbook for Parents of First Graders which has been developed by the SIC partners Association Parents and ARC Fund and regularly updated and disseminated in the last 3 years at the first school year day and which traditionally contains a chapter about safer use of internet and mobile technologies.
The winners were awarded portable speakers and local spices to bring the magic of Hungarian cuisine to their homes across Europe.
