Bulgarian teacher arrested after report from the Hotlines in Ireland and Bulgaria

Successful collaboration between the Hotlines of Ireland and Bulgaria and the Bulgarian Cybercrime Unit resulted in the identification and arrest of a teacher in Bulgaria for possesion and dissemination of child sexual abuse images.

In the beginning of April, the Irish Hotline received a report for suspected sharing of child pornography content on an international online network. After tracing an IP address in Bulgaria from which a video of a sexual scene with children between 8 and 12 years of age the Irish Hotline transmitted the information to the Bulgarian Hotline.

All the information collected by the two Hotlines helped the Bulgarian Cybercrime Unit to trace the illegal activity to one specific IP address and identify the user as a 34 years old school teacher in the city of Plovdiv who has been teaching geography to pupils from 12 to 15 years of age.

On 12 May, the Bulgarian Cybercrime Unit arrested the teacher and during the search in his home a large quantity of child pornography was discovered and confiscated as evidence.
