The Safer Internet Centre is training Bulgarian police and magistrates

On 2-4 December 2010, experts of the Bulgarian Safer Internet Centre (SIC) co-ordinated by ARC Fundparticipated in a training in the town of Troyan of more than 30 police officers, prosecutors and judges from the Veliko Tarnovo judicial district organized by the International Academy for Cybercrime Investigation Training.

The SIC coordinator Georgi Apostolov presented to the auditorium the main aims and activities of the Bulgarian Safer Internet Centre, the history of the Safer Internet Programme of the EC, the structure and activities of the INSAFE and INHOPE networks and their role in assisting the law enforcement agencies for decreasing the illegal and harmful for children content and conduct in Internet by national and international cooperation and coordination of efforts. He presented a comparison of national legislations across Europe concerning sexual abuse and exploitation of children and their online protection, the contents of the Proposal of the EC for a new Directive against child sexual exploitation as well as the proposals of the Bulgarian SIC for necessary legislation changes and amendments and its implementation in the courts’ practice in order to provide for a more efficient combating of computer-related crimes against minors.

From 2010, the Academy started trainings in all judicial districts in the country with the aim to raise the capacity of law-enforcement, prosecution and courts in combating computer-related crimes. The Bulgarian Safer Internet Centre took part in three trainings in the last 3 months reaching out to almost 100 police officers, prosecutors and judges across the country.
