Awarded and nominated enterprises in the Thirteenth National Contest “Innovative Enterprise of the Year, 2017”

Winners of the 2017 Innovative Enterprise of the Year Contest 

The awarding ceremony of the winners of the 13th edition of the “Innovative Enterprise of the Year – 2017” competition took place during the National Innovation Forum on 15 December 2017.

The Forum was held under the auspices of the President of the Republic of Bulgaria Gen. Rumen Radev and with the special participation of Mr. Tomislav Donchev, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Bulgaria and Mr. Ognyan Zlatev, Head of the Representation of the European Commission in Bulgaria.

Ontotext Ltd. received an honorary statuette and a diploma  for “Innovation for Market Leadership”.

Ontotext develops products and solutions based on semantic technologies. The Graph DB innovation is a globally recognized graph database used by top scientific content publishers such as Elsevier, Springer Nature, and Wiley. The innovation is radical for the publishing business and managing large volumes of dynamic content.

In the area of Quality of Life Innovation for 2017, ProsFit Technologies Inc. was honored with a certificate and statuette.

ProsFit Technologies AD develops medical software and a comprehensive digital service for the precise design and 3D printing of prostheses for patients with an amputated limb. The company is a pioneer in this field and has worked on joint projects with Disabled People International and with medical centres in Europe, Australia and Asia.

Amber Technologies Ltd. was awarded with an honorary diploma for “Innovative Start-up” in 2017.

Amber Technologies Ltd. was established in 2016. It has developed a mattress with an original technology for embedding pure Baltic amber. It is known for its healthy and balancing effect. The company implements direct sales based entirely on digital marketing. It also develops a range of healthy sleep products.

Bulbera Ltd. was awarded a certificate of merit for “Social Innovation” in 2017.

Bulbera Ltd is the creator of the free Protect Your Kid mobile app. It is the only one created in Bulgarian. It enables blocking dangerous content on the Internet and risky mobile applications. It has been translated into 10 languages. It is distributed in countries in Europe, North America, Asia and Africa.

For “Green Innovation” in 2017, “ASAREL – MEDET” Ltd. was awarded with a diploma.

Asarel-Medet Ltd. has developed a system for reclamation of a mine waste ore dump. It ensures the simultaneous extraction of copper from the waste, disposal of by-products and restoration of natural habitats. This is the first time the system has been applied at a mine waste facility still in operation.

For “Innovation Management”, a diploma is awarded to the Institute of Medical Research Ltd.

It is the first private medical research institute in Bulgaria. Its activities are focused on innovation and international projects in personalized medicine, diagnostics and genetic research. The company is distinguished by high quality management of its innovation activities according to internationally recognized criteria.

For “Innovation for Talent Development” the company “GROZEN Entertainment” Ltd. was awarded with a certificate of merit.

GROZEN Entertainment Ltd. is a production house for comics, artbook publications and an animation studio. The company creates a professional reality format for young comic artists COMIX BOX, which is a novelty worldwide. The company also has a training center for the whole spectrum of advertising, animation, gaming and comics professions.

For “Innovation in the creative industries” a certificate of merit was awarded to MP STUDIO Ltd.

MP Studio Ltd. is among the pioneers in the field of designing 3D visual effects and interactive installations on various objects. It creates innovative synchronization between laser and video mapping, under the brand 4D Experience. The company has over 160 projects worldwide, including the first mapping of a cave, a cathedral and a moving object.

AvtoIkonom is an internet platform and mobile application for interactive two-way communication between the car owner and service providers – repair shops, technical inspections, insurers and leasing companies.

Vitanea Ltd

Vitanea produces nectars, juices and tea from chokeberry, blackberry, raspberry with functional qualities according to the original technology of prof. Krachanov.

Volontime Ltd

Volontime creates, maintains and develops the eponymous social network for good deeds, where everyone can find information and become part of everything related to doing good.

Imperia Online Ltd

“Imperia Online develops and distributes the computer game Kingdoms Online, a real-time strategy game fully localized for the Arab market.

Kickflip Ltd

Kickflip is a digital product design agency involved in the creation of a digital platform for the development of innovative solutions in medicine.

ClaimCompass Ltd

ClaimCompass is an online platform and mobile application that helps air passengers to get compensation in case of canceled or delayed flights based on Regulation EC261/2004 (EU).

Ligna Group

Ligna Group specializes in furnishing, interior design and process management related to the complete furnishing of private and public buildings.

Mobile Systems Ltd

Mobile Systems (branded MobiSystems) is the creator of OfficeSuite Now, a multi-platform office suite for businesses and individual users.

OPTIX Ltd

OPTIX creates and manufactures the OPTIX Automated Remote identiFIRE early fire detection system, which combines thermographic functions, meteorological and topographic data.

Pro Smart Ltd

Pro Smart is a company that developed the Bboil RF programmable Wi-Fi thermostat controller with wireless temperature sensor that can remotely control appliances in the home.

Sirma Medical Systems Ltd

Sirma Medical Systems is the creator of Diabetes:M, a mobile app and condition monitoring platform for people with all types of diabetes and pre-diabetic conditions. 

 

TANGRA – AV Ltd

TANGRA – AV develops a proprietary range of energy saving ventilation systems with up to 94% energy recovery.

UltraFlex Corporation Ltd

Ultraflex Corporation designs and manufactures a complete range for the power electronics and air cooled induction melter – EasyMelt Air.

ABOUT THE COMPETITION

The 13th edition of the Innovative Enterprise of the Year competition is organised by the Applied Research and Communications Fund and Enterprise Europe Network – Bulgaria, with the support of the Directorate General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs of the European Commission, in partnership with BNT, the magazine Innovative Enterprise of the Year and the European Commission. In 2017, more than 100 applications from innovative companies from different economic sectors took part in the Contest. 21 of them reached nominations, from which the jury selected winners in 8 areas according to the impact of the innovation.

Applications are evaluated according to a special methodology by an expert panel and a 17-member jury based on the following criteria:

– Expenditure on research and development (R&D) and/or technological upgrading

– Proportion of staff engaged in R&D

-Organisational and management innovations implemented

– Innovation cooperation

– Funding from public and private innovation programmes

– Innovation awards

– Technical level of innovation

– Degree of intellectual property protection

– Social impact of the innovation

– Innovative leader in the international market
