Support for the EU Climate Goals in the Danube Region

On 22–23 April 2026, the Applied Research and Communications Fund (ARC Fund) team joined partners from the HARMONMISSIONS consortium in Podgorica, Montenegro, to advance solutions aimed at increasing participation across the Danube Region in two key Horizon Europe climate missions: Mission 1: Adaptation to Climate Change and Mission 4: 100 Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities.

During the meeting, participating experts focused on practical approaches to engaging stakeholders and citizens in the European Union’s climate agenda. Discussions highlighted the importance of inclusive collaboration among municipal and national authorities, academia, non-governmental organizations, and the private sector.

To support informed decision-making and coordinated action, the consortium developed a set of comprehensive resources. These include policy briefs, a dedicated climate adaptation strategy tailored to Danube Region countries, and a curated collection of replicable good practices designed to accelerate local and regional implementation.

In parallel, the HARMONMISSIONS team outlined a series of awareness-raising, engagement, and training activities to be carried out in each participating country. These efforts aim to strengthen public understanding of climate challenges and empower communities to actively contribute to sustainable, climate-resilient development across the region.
