ARC Fund, the Commission for Economic and Social Cohesion of the South Central Region of Bulgaria, the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works, the University of Thessaly in Greece, and tti Magdeburg GmbH of Germany jointly organised the concluding conference to the EC FP5-funded initiative for “Development of a Regional Innovation Strategy for the South Central Region of Bulgaria”. The conference was held on May 21, 2004, in Plovdiv (Hall 7 of the Plovdiv International Fair).
Withinin this project ARC Fund studied and analysed the innovation needs of SMEs in the South Central Region, the regional innovation supply, and the intermediary innovation support services. On this basis it elaborated a strategy for enhancing the technology development and innovation in the region. An Action Plan was also drawn up as an integral part of the Regional Innovation Strategy (RIS) which contains a set of pilot projects, relevant funding programmes, and organisations which could implement these pilot initiatives.
The conference brought together the major regional players in the field of innovation, the mayors of all main cities in the region, representatives of the business and research communities, and the intermediary organisations who supported the implementation of the project.
