On 19 October, the Bulgarian Safer Internet Centre (SIC), operated by the Applied Research and Communications Fund, presented best practices in public–private sector dialogue and partnership at the first South East European Regional Conference on Cybersecurity and Cybercrime. SIC expert Luiza Shahbazyan discussed main areas of partnership including collaborative actions undertaken to respond to reports received by the Bulgarian Safer Internet Hotline, a key national mechanism to fight illegal and harmful for children content and conduct online.
The conference, which took place from 19th to 21st October in Sofia, was organised by the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Bulgaria – Computer Crime, IPR and Gambling Section within General Directorate Combating Organized Crime, and the International Cyber Investigation Training Academy. The event was under the auspices of the Deputy Prime Minister of Bulgaria and Minister of Interior – Mr. Tsvetan Tsvetanov.
A number of distinguished experts in counteracting cybercrime participated in the conference, including Mark Sullivan – Director of the United States Secret Service, Markko Künnapu – Chair of the Convention Committee on Cybercrime, Cormac Callanan – Industry Coordinator for the 2CENTRE – Cybercrime Centres of Excellence in Training, Research and Education. There were also specialists from all sectors of the public administration involved in ICT and counteracting cybercrime, as well as representatives from private companies such as Microsoft, Max Telecom, Hewlett Packard, Hi Computers.
The main goal of the event was to foster strong public-private partnerships to prevent and counteract all forms of cybercrime.
